K-101 Ms. Catechis
My name is AvgeriniCatechis, I am a kindergarten teacher at P.S.51 for many years by choice. I love kindergarten!!!! I have been part of the P.S.51 family for 27 years. With my two masters degrees I had ample chances throughout the years to move on as a mentor, a lead teacher and even administration. I did not accept any of these positions due to my love and admiration of our school. When I first came to PS51, it was right after college, I really did not know where the school building was (I was looking for a huge building). I walked passed our school building and went straight unto the Intrepid Museum and insisting that the school was there. Back tracking my footsteps led me to what will be my home away from home for many years. I have been blessed to be a part of the greatest school in New York. Friendships have been made through-out the years that have been part of my school life and my personal life, relationships with our parents that have withered many storms. I have cried and laughed together with my colleagues and our parents, in other words we are committed to each other and to our school. A few years back I was taking attendance the first day of kindergarten and I came to the name of one of my students that reminded me of a former student. Are they related?, I thought. After some research I discovered that yes they related in a big way. My new student was the daughter of two previous students. How great is that…I got to fulfill the cycle of a family! It is rare to be able to say how amazing a work place can be after all these years, but that is what our school is: AMAZING!!!!!

Greetings! My name is Carey Stomkin, and this is my first year teaching at P.S. 51. From the moment I entered the school, I immediately felt a strong sense of community. This is an incredibly special place where everyone is truly a team. I received my Masters in Early Childhood Education from Hunter College, and I genuinely love teaching Kindergarten. Watching the children grow by leaps and bounds throughout the year is going to be such a joy!
